Why Literacy Matters
According to Literacy Mid-South:
85% of all juveniles who interface with the juvenile court system are functionally low-literate.
Juvenile incarceration significantly reduces the likelihood of high school completion and increases the risk of incarceration later in life.Literacy isn’t just about reading—it’s about freedom, opportunity, and justice.
The Black Authors Festival is committed to changing these statistics by championing youth development, literacy equity, and the right to read. -
According to the Sentencing Project:
Forty-two percent of youths in placement are Black, even though Black Americans comprise only 15% of all youth across the United States. Among all states with a population of at least 8,000 Black youth, (between 10 and 17), a cutoff that allows for meaningful comparisons, Black youth are more likely to be in custody than white youth.

Why Support A Father’s Love Personal Development and Community Services?
Because this organization is more than a nonprofit—it is a living testament to the Power of Literacy and the transformative strength of the human spirit.
The Executive Director of A Father’s Love began his life as an illiterate, justice-involved youth, raised by a single mother in a marginalized community. Against all odds, he taught himself how to read while incarcerated. He then sat for his GED—and passed on the first try. But he didn’t stop there. He began tutoring others in prison, helping them pass their GEDs too.
Upon release, he enrolled in college, eventually earning two master’s degrees—including one from Columbia University School of Social Work, and graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Today, he is not only a scholar, but also a businessman, author, filmmaker, adjunct lecturer, chaplain, curriculum writer, and the proud Executive Director of A Father’s Love Personal Development and Community Services.
Through his leadership, the organization serves at-risk youth and families, using a clinical lens to address trauma, literacy, and self-determination. His story is a call to action for all of us: when you invest in literacy, you invest in legacy.

Vendor Responsibility and Expectations Notice I
Thank you for your interest in vending at the Black Authors Festival. Please be advised that the Festival and its organizers are not responsible for the amount of sales or revenue that vendors generate during the event. Each vendor is solely responsible for making every reasonable effort to promote and sell their merchandise within the rules and guidelines provided.

Please come prepared to professionally represent your brand. While corporate attire is not required, appearance matters, dress neatly and appropriately to match the event’s upscale environment.
